Just a reminder that the Queen West Art Crawl is THIS WEEKEND, September 12 and 13, from 11am – 6pm both days, and YOU’RE INVITED!
The show is free and runs rain or shine. I’ll be grinning away in booth L30. Come see me!!! xo
First of all, THIS:
It’s ONE WEEK until the Queen West Art Crawl, my favourite annual Toronto outdoor art festival. Heck yes! I will be smiling away in booth L30. Come say hi!!!! This is also the first year I’ve decided to try something different from the Billions Pass Through this Landscape series at this show. Allow me to introduce you to my whimsical, dream-like watercolours of personal-encouragement!
Also, I realize that this is my first post on here in 10 months. Woah. Interestingly, that’s around the time I started using Instagram for my artwork. It seems I only have the capacity to keep on top of one form of social media at a time. Anyway, I pretty much forgot I had an art blog, but I’ll try to start using it more again. I’m not going to pretend that I plan on starting to blog all the time, but ya know, once or twice a month would be nice. We’ll see.
See you soon at QWAC!!
I’m drawing the chakras in flowers! Well, I’m watercolouring them. And there don’t tend to be a lot of green flowers out there, because the rest of the plant is so often all green, and flowers have a different purpose than their chlorophyl-containing plantbody-parts (ssssssssex organs!), so green they ain’t.
So rather than an actual flower for the green heart chakra, I painted some beautiful foliage. It’s a tropical plant and I don’t know the name – if you can identify it for me, please do! – but I painted it from a picture of a lovely plant I saw in the caribbean on vacation. (Mmmmmm, St. Maarten!)
Here it comes in stages!
You can see the final image on my website. 5 more flowers to go, and then I have plans for them…
I know this amaaaaaaaaaazing, blows-my-mind artist who works under the name Psychelation (psychelation.com) and he drew a very handsome lion. A very sexy lion, in fact. And it was a commission, and so he was requested to have the lion holding up an all-seeing eye, which he drew of course. But he wasn’t stoked about that part of it, so he made a print of the lion, and I painted a hunk of amethyst in watercolours, and set that into the lion’s hands, covering up the other. I’m honoured to have been able to add something of mine into such an incredible drawing, and hope there will be many more collaborations to come with this flippin’ genius!
I dreamed I could fly by holding onto a frozen carrot.
On some days
The past can sing
So loudly in my ears.
But no song
Can revive the crumbled dust
And place it in front of you
To sing along.
Sometimes I feel like I missed out on so much, all those years
And then I remember
That there is no normal
And we’re all just here
With our frozen pasts behind us
And ahead nothing but space
To be filled with choices
